A few weeks ago some of our KCE members worked really hard to perform at UTA’s Korean Culture Association’s Korean Festival! We had a really fun time and hope to go back next time they have one.

Korean Culture Fall Festival

KCE Fall 2014 Festival Poster Lawn Signs

On November 13, 2014 from 2pm – 7pm in UNT’s Library Mall we will be holding our bi-annual Korean Culture Festival. From 2pm – 4:30 pm there will be free food, face painting, games, and Korean culture booths to visit. Starting at 5pm there will be live singing and dance performances, as well as a guest performance from the University of Texas at Arlington’s Korean Culture Association. Learn About Korea: Important Symbols

So when you think of South Korea what do you think of? King Sejong, Yi Sun Sin, or even K-Pop definitely could come to mind. Yet, what about the signs that represent Korea? The South Korean flag or the Taeguk are very distinct, but have you ever stopped and wondered what they mean and represent?

Korea did not have a national flag until 1883. Before that time the kingdoms of Korea did not think it necessary or important to create a flag. The first time this became an issue was in 1876 during the Joseon Dynasty. Continue reading Learn About Korea: Important Symbols
